DOT workers find handgun if drainage pipe
web
posted March 11, 2010
TRENTON – South Carolina Department of
Transportation (SCDOT) workers reported the discovery of a handgun
found in a drainage pipe to a pond on Woodward Lake Road Tuesday. At
this time it is unknown how the handgun made its way to the piping and
the Edgefield County Sheriff’s Office took control of the gun and
launched an investigation.
According to official reports on the matter made available on
Wednesday, the Smith & Wesson .38 caliber pistol was not reported
as stolen at this time. It was taken into evidence and the owner is
being tracked by the serial number found on the pistol.
It is not unusual for serial numbers of possible stolen guns not to
appear on reports, as many owners do not keep records of serial numbers
so they can be provided at the time of the theft.
The case is currently being handled by the Edgefield County Sheriff’s
Investigative Unit. Additional information is expected to be available
later this week in the case.
