Tech Professor: Tips and Tricks 2

By George Craig
web posted May 11, 2015

TECH PROFESSOR Ė Computers are a bit more tricky than most things. Whatever you do be careful and make sure youíre doing it just right. If you have a question then stop and ask and if you have a doubt then stop and find someone that can help. Here are a few tricks and tips that can help you keep things moving with your computer.

Trick 1: right clicking with your mouse can give you extra options.

Trick 2: after highlighting something with the mouse try pressing Ctrl and C at the same time to copy and when ready Ctrl and V at the same time to paste.

Trick 3: if a program gets stuck and clicking the x does nothing then try pressing Ctrl, Alt and delete at the same time then click on task manager and then you will see the program list and click on the program and then click end task. When your done just click the x on the task manager. Stuck program gone.

Trick 4: If your internet is having a hard time working try deleting your cookies. Click on the start button and then click on control panel. In control panel click on internet options. In internet options screen the first tab is the General tab.

On this tab go to the Browsing history section and click on the Delete button. The Delete Browsing History screen will appear. On this screen make sure the first four checkboxes are checked and the last four are not. Then click the Delete button at the bottom. When done just exit the screens. This trick can fix a lot of internet issues.

Trick 5: Just try restarting the computer or device. By doing this you reset everything and it can fix a lot of issues.

Now on to the tips.
Tip 1: Windows updates are must. They take time and are annoying but itís like taking medicine, I know you donít like it but trust me when I say itís for your own good.

Tip 2: Back up. Always back up. Save your data to a disk, USB thumb drive, External hard drive or a cloud service but back it up some place. Again itís for your own good.

Tip 3: Run your antivirus scan regularly. Antivirus, antimalware and antispyware should be run at least once a month if not more often. If you donít have these programs then stop what youíre doing and get them.

Tip 4: Do a defrag and disk cleanup about once a month as well. This will help keep your hard drive clean and running smoothly for a fast and clean computing experience.

Tip 5: Know your computer or device. Information is power. Take a class or get a friend to show you or try a Tech Professor lesson in your home. How ever you decide to do it, itís one of the best things you could do.

A computer is a lot like a car, with regular maintenance done by the user and occasionally by a professional it will keep it working especially when you need it most.

Until next week, Class dismissed.
