Five Schools Recognized in Palmetto Gold and Silver Awards Program

web posted April 15, 2011

COUNTY – The Edgefield County School District is proud to announce that five schools have been recognized in the distinguished Palmetto Gold and Silver Awards Program sponsored by the state. Fox Creek High School and Strom Thurmond Career Center are both recipients of Gold Awards. Douglas Elementary, Merriwether Elementary and Strom Thurmond High School are the recipients of Silver Awards.
This five schools were recognized at the April 19th Edgefield County Board of Trustees Meeting. They were presented with flags that display the category of their outstanding awards and certificates.
Dr. Mary R. Crenshaw said, “We are extremely proud of our schools that have received Gold and Silver Awards.  This award indicates that administration, teachers, support staff, students and parents are working hard towards established goals of reaching excellence in academic achievement.”
This program recognizes South Carolina’s schools with the highest levels of student academic achievement and the fastest rates of improvement. The Education Oversight Committee’s award criteria were based on the absolute and improvement ratings assigned to each school on the 2010 report cards.
Congratulations to the administration and faculty, support staff, the students and parents of these schools for their hard work that has brought each of them their distinguished honors.
