MERRIWETHER – Mrs. Marguerite Powell
Lanham Dorn, 67, beloved wife and companion of Thomas “Torn” Wiley
Dorn, Sr., entered into rest May 20, 2008 at University Hospital,
Augusta, GA.
Funeral Services will be held Friday May 23 at 11 AM at Republican
Baptist Church, Edgefield, SC with Rev. James F. Bray officiating.
Burial will follow in the church Cemetery.
Mrs. Dorn was a native of Decatur, GA, She was born August 9, 1940. She
lived most of her adult life in Edgefield, SC. She was the daughter of
the late James Garland Powell and Marguerite Green. Mrs. Dorn graduated
from Decatur High School in 1958 and attended the Massey Business
School of Decatur. She was self-employed as an antique dealer having
recently owned and operated her own shop, Vintage Finds. She was a
lifetime Baptist and a member of Republican Baptist Church of Edgefield.
Mrs. Dorn, an avid outdoorswoman, enjoyed a wide range of activities
including boating, fishing, and camping. Other interests included
horseback riding and a good hand of bridge. Affectionately known as
“Monga”, by her grandchildren, she was devoted to their happiness and
well-being. A constant friend, she had a keen sense of wit about her
and lived her life daily to the fullest. She was beloved by her family
and friends and her cheery disposition will be sorely missed by all who
had the distinct honor of having known this truly remarkable woman.
Survivors include her husband, 6 sons- William “Bill” Driskell Lanham,
III and his wife
Debra; Robert “Bob” Preston Lanham and his wife Penny; Steven “Steve”
Garland
Lanham and his wife Robin Kenneth “Ken” Powell Lanham; Thomas Wiley
Dorn, II and his wife Jennifer; Ellis Peeler Dorn, all of North
Augusta. SC. One Daughter- Jeleh
Dorn Ghaffari and her husband, Reza Chaffari of Chantilly, VA. Also 16
grandchildren-
Steven Brooks Lanham; Bryan Scott Lanham,; Justin. Powell Lanham;
Brittney Diane Lanham; Kyle Preston Lanham; William Driskell Lanham,
IV; Danielle Nicole Lanham; Troy Eric Cumbee; Briggs Rutledge Darn ;
Hillman Garrett Darn; Lydia Frances Kathryn Dorn all of North Augusta,
SC. Ellis Peeler Dorn, II; William Burkhalter Dorn of Camden, SC.
Alexander Hassan Chaffari, Jordan Reza Ghaffari and Sarah Vali Ghaffari
of Chantilly, VA; one brother- John T. Powell, Cleveland, Ga; 2
sisters- Mrs. Jane Thompson, Suwannee, GA and Mrs. Carol Hollingsworth,
Cummings, GA. Mrs. Dorn was predeceased by her first husband, Mr.
William Driskell Lanham, Jr. and a brother, James G. Powell, Jr.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, Steven Brooks Lanham, Bryan Scott
Lanham, Briggs Rutledge Dorn and Hillman Garrett 00.111. Also nephews,
Timothy Kent Hollingsworth and William Michael Hollingsworth
Memorials may be made to Republican Baptist Church, 610 Republican
Road, Clarks Hill, SC 29821.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 to 8 PM at the
Edgefield Mercantile Funeral Home.
