House Fire Sends Homeowner To Hospital

web posted December 4, 2018

MERRIWETHER - A Delaughter Drive man is in the Burn Unit at Doctor's Hospital after a fire completely destroyed his home Monday afternoon. Mr. Jimmy Delaughter suffered, what was described as, serious burns in the fire.

According to family members of the victim, a neighbor heard an explosion coming from the direction of the home belonging to Mr. Delaughter at about 2:45 PM.  The explosion was followed by cries for help from the victim.   The neighbor called 911 and went to assist.  He found the home in flames and was in the process of helping Mr. Delaughter from the burning structure when units from the Merriwether Fire Department arrived on the scene.

The home and the belongings of Mr. Delaughter and his wife, Barbara, were completely consumed by the blaze.  Mrs. Delaughter was not home at the time of the incident.  Two of the homeowner's five dogs perished in the fire.  The cause of the fire is unknown at the time of this report.

Units from the Merriwether Fire Department were on the scene for about four hours
