MES Gets Wacky

web posted November 6, 2018

110618MESMERRIWETHER - Students and teachers had a blast getting wacky with science at Merriwether Elementary School’s annual Wacky Science Night. At Wacky Science Night, students and parents are able to participate in S.T.E.M activities. Each grade level sets up different science experiments in classrooms. The experiments are tied to one of the South Carolina State Standards.
This year there were screaming ghost balloons, exploding pumpkins, boo bubbles, and several other exciting experiments. Rachel Epting, third grade teacher, stated how much she loved the event, “Our faculty really comes together to get ready for this night. We decorate the hallway, dress up in costumes, and gather and create science experiments so this can be a fun night for our MES family.” The students do not even realize they are learning because they are having so much fun.” MES hosts this night because they love to see children interacting and learning alongside their parents. Principal Bruce Lee states, “Problem solving and risk-taking are two transfer goals our community and school district have identified as being important for our students. Wacky Science Night provides a fun way for our students and their parents to be to be able to practice these goals and enjoy learning.”
