More thefts from vehicles reported Monday, two vehicles stolen
web posted August 11, 2010
MERRIWETHER – Thefts from parked vehicles continue
to be reported in the Merriwether area and now includes the thefts of
two trucks. As residents along the Currytown Road area awoke Monday
morning several found vehicles parked at their homes had been entered
with a total of over $1,000 of property missing.
The thefts were reported in the Plantation Point and Whispering Woods
subdivisions with at least four unlocked vehicles being entered by an
unknown person or persons. Items stolen from the vehicles varied from
small amounts of money and coins to $1,000 in compact discs.
Three of the thefts occurred on the 800 block of Plantation Point as
well a stolen 2004 GMC Sierra 2500 truck valued at $34,000. According
to incident reports, the keys were left in the truck and it was left
unlocked.
The truck theft was reported missing just after 7 am Monday and had
been parked at the home since 11:30 Sunday night. A Sheriff’s deputy on
routine patrol spotted the truck parked at a residence on the 1400
block of Stephens Road just after 11 am.
An investigator was called to the scene to process the truck for
evidence. The owner was also called to the scene and reported that
approximately $2,000 worth of damage to the front left corner of the
truck had been caused by the person or persons responsible. The truck
was turned back over to the owner at the scene.
A second truck was reported stolen from a business on the 1400 block of
Edgefield Road (Highway 25 south). The truck, a 1993 Chevrolet K1500
burgundy in color, was found missing when the owner arrived to open the
business. The truck also has a tool box in the bed. The truck was
locked and the owner still had the keys.
The tag on the truck is SC plate ENQ 702 and is valued at $4,000.
Anyone seeing the truck is asked to call the Edgefield County Sheriff’s
Office at 803-278-1625 or 803-637-5337.
