Three Edgefield residents summoned in scrap metal theft
web posted July 23, 2010
JOHNSTON – A Johnston man called police to report
seeing scrap metal being taken from his property on Rabbit Road Tuesday
afternoon and provided a description and tag number of the SUV towing a
trailer. After alerting other local agencies, the Ford Explorer was
spotted and a traffic stop was initiated to identify the occupants and
the material in the trailer.
As the investigation continued the three “admitted they took said
property without permission,” an incident report stated. They also
agreed to take the scrap metal back to the property it was taken from.
The owner told officers he wanted to pursue charges and have the three
placed on a trespass notice from the property.
Rodney Rouse, 42, Cynthia Hall Rouse, 37, and Walter Rouse, 73, all of
Edgefield, were served with summons to appear in court on August 12 at
10 am for the charge of simple larceny. They were then released.
Additional scrap metal was said to have been taken from the property by
the owner. One of the three had a receipt for 100 pounds of scrap that
had been sold earlier in the day to a recycling center. It is unknown
if the items sold were the additional missing scrap metal that came
from the property.
