Johnston Development Corporation donates new banners for Downtown

web posted April 12, 2011

JOHNSTON – The Johnston Development Corporation, a non-profit volunteer organization that has helped the Town of Johnston grow in many ways for over 20 years, has donated two sets of new banners for downtown Johnston. The funds to buy the custom-made banners come from proceeds from the Peach Blossom Festival, which is sponsored by the Development Corporation.

The first set of banners, which promotes the date of the Festival, was installed the week before the Masters golf tournament. In addition to the Festival banners, the group is also providing a set of “Welcome” banners to be used later.

The banners hang on the traffic light poles next to the Garden Center and in front of Maxwell and Halford drugstore, right in the heart of the town.

Dean Campbell, Johnston Development Corporation Board Chairman, said he was pleased the organization continues to work hard to promote the Town and its events.

“Our Board of Directors wants to aggressively pursue more opportunities to show the positive aspects of living and working in Johnston,” Campbell said. “The proceeds from the Festival give us that opportunity.”

Andy Livingston, Johnston Mayor, said he is excited that the new banners will bring additional attention from those passing through Johnston.

“The Development Corporation has always been a great help to the town in many ways,” Livingston said. “I am looking forward to our town forging an even stronger partnership with the Development Corporation, as well as other groups who step up, to improve our town.”

The Johnston Development Corporation works to aid the community in areas such as economic development, education, recreation, historic preservation, tourism, scientific and cultural opportunities, and continued promotion of Johnston.

The Johnston Development Board has also worked hard throughout the years to promote the Town, surrounding areas and businesses, complementing the work of the Town, Chamber of Commerce, local civic groups, as well as other local and Edgefield County organizations.
