Edgefield teen charged after attack of neighbor

web posted July 21, 2010

EDGEFIELD – An Edgefield teen has been arrested after allegedly attacking a 40-year-old woman with a “large rock” at her home on Eastview Road Monday night. Jessica Renee Broadwater, 18, later surrendered to the Sheriff’s Office and was booked into custody on a hold until a warrant could be obtained.

The woman told deputies she had been receiving threatening calls from Ms. Broadwater and later heard a knock at her door. When she opened the door Broadwater was standing there and, “reached into the front of her pants and pulled out a large rock,” and began striking the woman in the face and head, incident reports state.

The blows caused the woman to fall to the ground and resulted in injuries.

Deputies arrived at the home of Ms. Broadwater and were told she was not there. After contacting her by phone she agreed to turn herself in at the Detention Center and honored her agreement.

Broadwater has been charged with assault and battery in the second degree and is still being held as of Tuesday night, jail officials said. She is expected to have a bond hearing on Wednesday.

The extent of the injuries to the victim was not available.
