Turkey Federation counter sues former executives
web posted July 19, 2010
EDGEFIELD – The National Wild Turkey Federation has
announced to its members that it has filed lawsuits against former
employees and national board members who are suing the NWTF. In a
letter to all state chapter presidents from CEO George Thornton dated
July 6, “After very thoughtful deliberation based on information we now
have in hand and with advice of legal counsel, the NWTF has filed suit
against Dick Rosenlieb, Carl Brown, CJ Brown and former national Board
of Directors members Michael Tull and Earl Groves.”
The letter was sent to all state chapter presidents because, “We wanted
you to learn of these actions from the NWTF leadership and not through
the rumor mill.”
Brown and Rosenlieb’s removal in 2008 also brought about the
resignation
of Rob Keck, who led the organization as CEO for 27 years.
Keck is not a party to any of the lawsuits filed on both sides of the
dispute.
Brown, the former chief operating officer, and Rosenlieb, the former
Vice President, filed
individual suits in Edgefield against the NWTF
claiming their dismissals were orchestrated and based on lies and
deformation.
Chief Operating Officer Carl Brown, a 28-year employee, and Senior Vice
President of Sales and Marketing Dick Rosenlieb with 19 years of
service were dismissed in 2008.
According to Thornton’s letter of July 6, the suit was filed after
information was obtained since the 2008 shakeup and, “As that
information was reviewed and analyzed, it became clear there were
actions taken by Brown, Rosenlieb and others that were intended to harm
your NWTF.”
The letter continued by stating, “We believe that our lawsuit
against these individuals is the responsible course of action.”
The response by the NWTF was stated as coming on the heels of Brown and
Rosenlieb filing new lawsuits against “certain members of our National
Board of Directors. These new lawsuits, we believe, are without merit
and in fact are harassing in nature,” the letter said.
The lawsuits represent only one side of the parties involved.
