Singletary drug investigation months in the making
web posted July 19, 2010
EDGEFIELD – According to information obtained from
the Edgefield Police Department, the investigation that led to the
arrest of William Singletary
has been ongoing for several months. At
least four times Singletary sold pills or marijuana to individuals,
three times at a park or in the proximity of a school, according to
Edgefield Police.
Three separate drug deals were said to have taken place in April and a
fourth in early May. It is unknown if there were additional purchases
conducted during the investigation.
However, based on the information provided, the Edgefield Police
Department sought, and was granted, the seven warrants for Singletary’s
arrest.
He remains in custody at the Edgefield County Detention Center on
$45,000 in bonds relating to the drug charges.
Singletary gained media attention after filing a multi-million dollar
lawsuit early last year and within two months his civil lawsuit soared
to a whopping $1 billion
in requested damages.
"I know I'm not getting that type of money, but it's not about the
money," he said Monday. "I feel like I have been singled out as an
African-American. I have been disrespected and demeaned. The money is
all about attracting attention to this issue here in Edgefield County,
which has been going on for a while," Singletary said in an April 2009
interview.
According to the latest information, his lawsuit is still in Federal
Court.
