Thefts from vehicles continue to climb in number

COUNTY – Though breaking news on another shooting incident took headlines for most of last week, thefts from vehicles continued to be reported on nearly a daily basis. The majority of the thefts took place in the Merriwether area with over $1,500 in property stolen. In two thefts in the Johnston area totaled over $1,700 including an assault rifle. In the last two weeks the amount stolen is over $4,400.

Law enforcement has urged residents to remove valuables from your vehicle at night and to lock all the doors. Activate security systems if they are available and try to park in a well lit area.

The most recent reports are listed by, date, street, and amount of stolen property reported. In all of the cases, the vehicles were left unlocked or windows down.

Merriwether
Aug. 4, Shortcut Road, $100 (GPS system)
Aug. 3, Stephens Road, Mail, no value listed
Aug. 2, Ann Street, $651, Sony PSP gaming system, unemployment check
Aug. 1, Dupriest Circle, $250, Pioneer CD player
Jul. 29, Timothy Crossing, $110, seatbelt assembly for a Cadillac Escalade
Jul. 27, Ruby Road, $360, approximately 30 CD’s, flashlight, tool set

Johnston
Aug. 1, Hardy Place, $1,100, Smith & Wesson AR15 semi-automatic rifle with “MP” printed on the side of the stock.
Jul. 27, Ridge Road, $650, stereo and amp. Vehicle was reported locked but had the windows down.
