Storms create problems again for emergency crews on Wednesday evening
web posted July 29, 2010
COUNTY – Strong storms moved across the Edgefield
County area Wednesday afternoon and into the evening with heavy rains,
high winds and numerous lightening strikes. Some power outages were
reported around the Merriwether area as well as a home struck by
lightening that caused a fire in an interior wall in the County Line
Fire District.
The home struck by lightening reported smoke filling the house that was
emanating from a breaker box. County Line Firefighters arrived on the
scene and were able to prevent further damage to the home.
The much needed rain came all at once with between two and three inches
of rain falling as the storms passed over. Due to the lack of rain and
the dry hard ground conditions, most of the needed precipitation shed
off into low lying areas as runoff and caused only minor flooding in
some locations, though not posing any risk to homes or roadways.
Conditions for more late afternoon pop-up thunderstorms will continue
today and into Friday as temperatures rise to near 100 with humid
conditions
