Car Chase Lands Aiken Man in Jail
web posted April 26, 2011
COUNTY – An Edgefield County Sheriff's Deputy on
routine patrol along Highway 25 south on Sunday spotted a silver
Lincoln and ran the license plate, which came back to a Toyota. When
the deputy initiated a traffic stop the driver refused to stop and lead
deputies on a chase up and down the four lane for several minutes.
As the southbound driver approached Trailside Drive he turned across
the median and headed back north. He continued to refuse to stop and as
he approached Macedonia Road and saw another deputy waiting in the
median, he turned around again heading south with both deputies in
One of the deputies was able to pass the Lincoln and got in front and
the two deputies then created a "rolling roadblock" until they were
able to force the driver to stop near Murphy Street.
The driver refused orders to show his hands and was taken out of the
car and forced to the ground where he was arrested.
The driver was identified as Cory Matthew Jones, 24, of Shiloh Heights
Road in Aiken.
He was charged with failing to stop for blue lights and siren, driving
under suspension, and operating an uninsured vehicle, according to an
incident report. The chase never exceeded 60 mph, the deputy noted.
